Symbol Scanner Programming Barcodes for Zebra DS2208 and LS2208

Scan these programming barcodes to reset or set up a Zebra DS2208 or a Symbol LS2208 handheld scanner: factory defaults, USB keyboard mode, an Enter key after each scan, beeper volume and UPC options. Each code comes from Zebra's own product reference guide, with its page, and says how to undo it.

Test every code on one scanner before you program the others. These codes come from the manufacturer's manual and were checked by decoding them, not by scanning them with the scanners: they are from the manual, not hardware-tested.

Set Factory Defaults

From the manual, not hardware-tested

Clears any custom defaults and sets every parameter back to the factory default listed in the guide's Appendix A.

Undo: There is no undo: the settings you changed before are gone, so scan them again if you need them.

How to Program a Zebra Scanner With Barcodes

Point the scanner at one programming barcode on your screen or on paper; it beeps and changes that setting, and keeps it after a restart.

  1. Choose your model above: DS2208 or LS2208.
  2. Scan the setting's code with the scanner, from the screen or from a printed page.
  3. Listen for the beep and scan a normal barcode into a text editor to check the result.
  4. Scan the undo code given with the setting, or the factory reset, to go back.

Settings on This Page

The page carries the settings people change most, for each model; the full list is in each guide.

DS2208 Digital Scanner

  • Factory reset: Set Factory Defaults and Restore Defaults.
  • Interface: USB Keyboard HID, and Caps Lock Override for USB.
  • Data format: an Enter or a Tab key after each scan, the UPC-A check digit, UPC-E to UPC-A, Code 39 Full ASCII.
  • Beeper: low, medium or high volume.

LS2208 Laser Scanner

  • Factory reset: Set All Defaults.
  • Interface: USB HID Keyboard, and Caps Lock Override for keyboard wedge hosts.
  • Data format: the UPC-A check digit, UPC-E to UPC-A, Code 39 Full ASCII.
  • Beeper: low, medium or high volume.

Zebra Scanner Reset Barcode

To reset a DS2208, scan Set Factory Defaults; to reset an LS2208, scan Set All Defaults. Both return every setting to the factory value listed in the guide.

Set Factory Defaults or Restore Defaults

On the DS2208, Restore Defaults goes back to custom defaults if someone saved them with Write to Custom Defaults, and to the factory values otherwise. Set Factory Defaults clears custom defaults too, so it is the full reset.

After a Reset

The reset also undoes settings you want to keep, such as an Enter key after each scan. Scan those codes again after the reset, and test with a normal barcode.

Adding an Enter Key After Each Scan

On the DS2208, scan Add Enter Key once and the scanner presses Enter after every code, so each scan lands in a new row of a spreadsheet.

The LS2208 guide sets a suffix through its prefix and suffix values and advanced data formatting, which take several codes in a row; they are not on this page. Use the LS2208 guide for that, and test on one scanner first.

Barcode scanner to Excel counts scans and writes an Excel file, with a USB scanner or a camera.

Which Guide Applies to Your Scanner

The codes come from two Zebra guides; use the one for your model, and the newer guide when Zebra publishes one for your unit.

From the Manual, Not Hardware-Tested

Every code here was read from the guide's own PDF page and redrawn by our generator, which then decodes to the same data; none was scanned with a real scanner.

  1. The guide's page is rendered as an image and every programming barcode on it is decoded.
  2. Each code is paired with the caption printed under it; nothing is typed by hand.
  3. The generator draws the same data as Code 128 with FNC3, and the drawing must decode back identically.

A scanner with other firmware may behave differently, so test each code on one scanner before programming many.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Reset a Zebra Scanner to Factory Settings?

Scan Set Factory Defaults on a DS2208, or Set All Defaults on an LS2208. The scanner beeps and every setting returns to the factory value in its guide.

Can I Scan the Codes From My Screen?

The DS2208 guide says most computer monitors allow scanning codes directly on the screen, with the zoom set so the bars do not merge. The LS2208 guide does not say, so if it does not read the screen, print the codes with Print these codes.

What Is FNC3 in a Programming Barcode?

FNC3 is a Code 128 function character that tells the scanner the code is an instruction for itself, not data to type. That is why scanning these codes types nothing.

Do These Codes Work on Other Zebra Models?

Some codes are the same in both guides used here, such as the beeper volume codes, but others differ, such as Caps Lock Override. For another model, use the codes in its own product reference guide.

Why Does My Scanner Not Type an Enter After the Code?

The Enter key is a suffix you add once: on a DS2208, scan Add Enter Key. A reset removes it, so scan it again afterwards.

Is There a Honeywell Version of This Page?

No: Honeywell's user guide was not available to us, and codes appear here only when they come from the manufacturer's own manual.
