Barcode Scanner Online
Scan a barcode online with your phone or laptop camera, right in the browser with no app to install. The scanner reads QR codes, UPC, EAN, Code 128, Data Matrix, PDF417 and more, lists every code it finds, and keeps the video and the results on your device.
Input
Camera off

Scan result
Your browser asks for permission. The video stays on this device.
Type or paste a code
Type the digits or text in the field below and press Enter. Product numbers are checked like a scanned code.
Waiting for the scanner
Paste the codes you expect, then scan.
Result
The code you scan appears here with what it means.
Session
No scans yet
Codes you scan are listed here, newest first.
Earlier sessions saved in this browser, newest first. New session moves the current one here.
The camera reads the same code again only after it has been out of view this long, so a code held in front of it counts once. In Count mode each new read adds one.
How to Scan a Barcode Online
Allow the camera and hold the barcode in the frame: with a beep the result appears, over the paused video on a phone and beside it on a wider screen.
- Press Start camera and allow the camera when your browser asks.
- Hold the barcode inside the frame, about a hand's width from the lens, until it is sharp.
- Read the result: the type, the content and, for product numbers, the check digit and the GS1 office that issued it. Copy it, look it up or open a link after checking its address.
- On a phone, press Scan next to scan another code; every code stays in the session list.
- When you are done, press Export CSV for a spreadsheet, or New session to start again.
Barcode Types This Scanner Reads
The scanner reads the common 1D and 2D barcode types, listed below by family.
QR Codes and Other 2D Codes
- QR Code: including Micro QR and rMQR, the rectangular Micro QR.
- Data Matrix: including GS1 DataMatrix, with its GS1 data split into fields.
- Aztec: compact and full-range symbols.
- PDF417: including Compact PDF417 and MicroPDF417.
- MaxiCode: the fixed-size code of hexagonal modules, also known as UPS Code.
UPC, EAN and ISBN Retail Barcodes
- UPC-A and UPC-E: the product codes used in the United States and Canada.
- EAN-13 and EAN-8: the product codes used in most other countries.
- ISBN: the EAN-13 barcode on books.
- EAN-2 and EAN-5 add-ons: the small extra code with an issue number or a book price.
Logistics and Industrial Barcodes
- Code 128 and GS1-128: shipping labels and internal tags; GS1 data is split into fields.
- Code 39 and Code 93: letters, digits and a few symbols; Code 93 with its two check characters.
- Codabar: read here, though the generator does not make it.
- ITF and ITF-14: cartons and cases.
- GS1 DataBar: fresh food and coupons, in its Omnidirectional, Stacked, Limited and Expanded forms.
Scan Barcodes on iPhone, Android or a Laptop
The scanner works in the browser of a device with a camera, once you allow the camera for this site.
iPhone and iPad
Open this page in Safari or another browser and press Start camera. When the browser asks, allow the camera; if you refused once, allow it again in your browser's website settings. The rear camera is chosen first.
Android Phones
Open the page in Chrome or another browser and allow the camera. Where the phone offers them, a Torch button appears over the video and a zoom slider under it, which help with small or poorly lit codes.
Windows and Mac Laptops
The scanner uses the built-in webcam or an external USB camera. If more than one camera is connected, choose one in the Camera menu or press Flip camera. Hold the barcode steady in front of the lens, because laptop webcams focus slowly. A USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner also works: choose USB scanner, because it types each code like a keyboard.
Why Won't My Barcode Scan?
A barcode usually fails to scan because it is blurred, too small in the frame, or lit by glare. Fix those three things first.
The Image Is Blurred or Too Small
Hold the code about a hand's width from the lens and wait for the camera to focus. The bars should fill most of the frame, and very small codes may need the zoom slider where it appears.
Glare or Low Contrast
Tilt the package slightly so light does not reflect off the label. Faded or low-contrast print is easier to read from a photo taken in daylight, which you can choose under Upload image.
The Barcode Is Damaged or Cut Off
A torn label or bars cut by a fold can make a linear barcode unreadable. 2D codes such as QR and Data Matrix have error correction and often still scan with some damage. Make sure the whole code and its white margin are in view.
Is It Safe to Scan a Barcode Online?
Yes: the camera video and the results stay in your browser, and the scanner never opens a link on its own.
What Happens to the Camera Video
Each video frame is read by code running on your device and then discarded. No frame, image or result is sent to a server. The results are kept in this browser's storage so they survive a reload, until you clear them, and saving can be turned off in Settings.
Links Are Never Opened Automatically
When a code contains a web address, the result shows the full address and an Open button with the host name, so you can check it first. Only http and https links get the button; any other content is shown as text to copy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Barcode Scanner Work on a Laptop?
Yes. It uses any camera your browser can open, such as a built-in webcam or a USB camera. Hold the barcode steady a little further from the lens than you would with a phone, so the webcam can focus.
Can I Scan Several Barcodes in a Row?
Yes. In Lookup mode a phone pauses on each result until you press Scan next, while a wider screen keeps scanning. Count mode adds one each time the same code is read again, and Validate checks your scans against a list you paste. Every code stays in the session list, and the same code is read again only after it has been out of view for the time set in Settings, 2.5 seconds at first.
Can I Export Scanned Barcodes to Excel?
Press Export CSV and open the file in Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. Each row holds the time, the source, the barcode type, the content, any add-on, the quantity and the product name if you looked it up.
Does the Scanner Show Product Prices?
No. It shows what the barcode contains, such as the 12-digit UPC number, with its check digit and the GS1 office that issued it. Find product name asks open databases such as Open Food Facts for the name, only when you press it, and they hold no prices. Search the number in a store's app or website for a price.
Why Does My Browser Ask for Camera Permission?
Browsers ask before any website uses the camera. The scanner needs the video to find barcodes, and it reads the frames on your device without recording or sending them. You can turn the camera off at any time with Stop camera.
Can I Scan a Barcode Without a Camera?
Yes. Choose Upload image and pick a photo or screenshot, drop it on the page, or paste it with Ctrl+V. You can also type the number under Type a code, and the barcode reader is made for many images at once.
