Frequently Asked Questions

Are These Barcode Tools Free?

Yes. Every tool on this page is free to use and needs no account or sign-up.

Which Tool Should I Use for a Product Barcode?

For a product sold in stores, use the UPC barcode generator in the United States and Canada, or the EAN-13 generator elsewhere. The number itself comes from GS1: the generator draws the barcode for a number you already have.

Can I Make Many Barcodes at Once?

Yes. The bulk barcode and bulk QR code generators take a list, a CSV or Excel file, or a sequence, and download a ZIP. The label generator puts the barcodes on label sheets as a PDF.

Do the Tools Work on a Phone?

Yes, they run in a phone's browser. The scanners need a browser that can open the camera; the readers take a photo or a screenshot instead.

Is What I Type or Scan Uploaded?

No. Barcodes are made and read in your browser, so what you type or scan is not sent to Barcode.codes. The site counts page views with Google Analytics, and the barcode lookup searches open product registries only when you click a search button.

What Is the Difference Between a Scanner and a Reader?

A scanner reads codes live from your camera. A reader reads them from an image file, such as a photo or a screenshot, which suits a code that is already on your screen.
