How to Make a YouTube QR Code
Find your handle in YouTube Studio, enter it here, check the link and download the code.
- Sign in to YouTube Studio and open Customization, then Basic info: your handle URL is under Handle.
- Type the handle above, or paste a youtube.com link to a channel, video or playlist.
- Check the encoded link below the form, then download the code as SVG for print or PNG for screens.
- Scan a test print with a phone and check that it opens your channel.
YouTube QR Code Fields
A YouTube QR code holds one link: the handle URL built from your handle, or the youtube.com link you paste.
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube handle or channel link | Yes | Your handle is under Customization, Basic info in YouTube Studio. A full youtube.com link, such as a channel URL, is used as it is. |
| Encoded form | https://www.youtube.com/@<handle>, or a channel link pasted as it is |
|---|---|
| Example | https://www.youtube.com/@youtubecreators |
| Special characters | None: the handle is written after the @ as you type it |
| When scanned | It is a web link: readers open it, and the phone shows the channel in the YouTube app or the browser |
| Checked before drawing | A typed handle may start with @ and must have no spaces or slashes. A pasted link must be on youtube.com, such as a channel URL with the channel ID, and is kept exactly as pasted. |
| Read back by Barcode.codes | The Barcode.codes scanner shows the link in full with an Open button naming its host, youtube.com. |
| Standard | YouTube Help lists the handle URL (youtube.com/@handle), the ID-based channel URL (youtube.com/channel/ followed by the ID), custom URLs (youtube.com/c/) and legacy username URLs (youtube.com/user/); all point to the channel. |
| Size of the example | The generator's example is 40 characters long: a version 3 QR code of 29 × 29 modules at error correction M. |
| Error correction | Choose L (about 7% of the code can be restored), M (about 15%, the default), Q (about 25%) or H (about 30%), as DENSO WAVE lists them; a higher level makes a larger code. |

Which YouTube Link to Use
A channel can have several URLs that all lead to it: the handle URL comes from the handle you choose, and the channel URL from the channel ID.
Handle URL
A handle URL, youtube.com/@ followed by your handle, is created automatically when you choose or change your handle. YouTube Studio shows it under Customization, Basic info.
Channel URL
The channel URL, youtube.com/channel/ followed by the channel ID, uses the unique ID of your channel. Paste it whole to put it in the code.
Custom and Legacy URLs
Custom URLs such as youtube.com/c/YouTubeCreators can no longer be set up, but existing ones keep working and redirect to the handle-based URL. Legacy username URLs such as youtube.com/user/YouTube also still lead to the channel.
A YouTube QR Code for Your Channel
Put the channel code where people already see your work, with a line saying it opens your YouTube channel.
If you change your handle, YouTube creates a new handle URL, while a printed code keeps the old one. For print that has to last, paste your channel URL with the channel ID instead, or make a new code after any change.
A QR Code for One Video or Playlist
Paste the video's or playlist's youtube.com link: the code keeps any youtube.com link exactly as pasted.
Copy the link from the address bar on youtube.com. Short links on other domains are refused, because this generator accepts only youtube.com links.
